Today, the Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections (CALC) sent a request to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) requesting the organization of public consultations on the draft decision on the establishment of polling stations abroad.
The opening of polling stations abroad is one of the topics intensely and widely debated on the eve of every election. It will be of increasing importance as long as the migration of citizens of the Republic of Moldova will be maintained and no alternative methods (multi-day voting / internet voting / mail voting, etc.) will be applied to exercise the right to vote.
CALC recalls that the Constitutional Court found in one of the six referrals issued in 2016 about the need to change the voting mechanism abroad, as well as the introduction of additional criteria for determining the number of polling stations abroad and their geographical distribution. By Law no. 113/2019, CEC was designated responsible for setting up polling stations abroad.
